New MRI scanner now in place at Bronglais Hospital
Aber Heating Engineers were appointed in 2019 to complete the mechanical services package involved with the new MRI scanner at Bronglais Hospital, Aberystwyth.
There were many specialist aspects to this project such as medical gases, chilled systems, steam systems and ventilation and not to mention the complexions that come with installing mechanical services within the immediate area of an MRI scanner.
Further challenges were faced due to the project taking place within a operating and functioning hospital environment. Throughout the project we strived to ensure the work was carried out with minimum disruption to services, this including weekend and overnight work to keep delays to a minimum. Where shutdowns of services were needed, Aber Heating worked closely with the Hospital and various departments to ensure that everyone was on the same page and any issues were addressed promptly.
Works carried out on this prestigious project consisted of:
- 2no 220KW Chiller plant along with chilled water system
- 2no Air handling units and associated ductwork
- Steam pipework systems
- Medical gases and bed head installations
- Domestic services
Ceredigion AM Elin Jones has welcomed the fact the new scanner is finally in place.
She said: “After a long campaign, I’m really pleased that the new MRI scanner for Bronglais is now in place. This is a real boost to both patients and staff in the Aberystwyth area because it will lessen the journeys expected of patients but will also provide state of the art scanning equipment for staff in Bronglais.
“This is a positive statement by the health board and Welsh Government that Bronglais is a key hospital for the whole of mid Wales.
“New investment in Bronglais will also be hugely influential in helping recruitment efforts for staff into Bronglais.”
